Is Abdominoplasty Right for You?

Abdominoplasty offers several different benefits. Here are a few of the reasons why this procedure might be right for you:

Reshape the Abdominal Area

Abdominoplasty not only improves the appearance of the abdomen but can reduce lower back pain and stress incontinence too.

Remove Excess Skin

Loose skin is one of the effects of losing a significant amount of weight. A tummy tuck or belt lipectomy will remove this excess skin.

Repair the Abdominal Wall

During pregnancy, it’s not uncommon for the walls of the abdomen to weaken and separate, something that can be managed with a tummy tuck & muscle repair.

The Abdominoplasty Procedure

To complete a tummy tuck, a general anaesthetic will be required. To complete the procedure, an incision is made from one side of the hip bone to the other, which will help conceal any scarring after surgery.

If required, the abdominal wall muscles will be repaired, after which the excess skin will be removed and stretched over the muscles. If the walls of the abdomen don’t need to be repaired, just the excess skin will be addressed. The navel will also be placed in a more natural position.

Patients who would also like to elevate the outer hips and buttocks tissue would benefit from a belt lipectomy instead of traditional abdominoplasty. A belt lipectomy still includes a tummy tuck but all excess skin below the navel will be addressed too.

Once the incisions have been closed, a compression garment will be applied to the treated area. This will not only reduce swelling but facilitate the healing process.

Tummy tuck patients will require at least a week of rest at home but two is ideal. Activities will be limited for at least six weeks. It can take up to six months to see the final results of your procedure.
