“I enjoy the daily challenges that plastic surgery presents, both in the reconstructive and cosmetic arena. Each patient requires anatomical thinking in three dimensions, and every possible way of improving form and function needs to be carefully considered. Seeing happy patients continues to drive me to do my very best everyday.”

Dr Raymond Goh

MBBS (Hons) FRACS (Plast.)

Dr Ray Goh completed his medical studies and graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland School of Medicine. Developing an interest in the field of surgery from the very onset of residency, he spent most of his junior doctor years at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, rotating through various surgical subspecialties, and completing his Basic Surgical Training, before progressing onto Advanced Training in General Surgery.

About Dr Raymond Goh

Dr Ray Goh completed his medical studies and graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland School of Medicine. After General Surgery training, Dr Goh was accepted into the training scheme of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, working through all major tertiary hospitals in Brisbane. He then undertook advanced Plastic Surgery training in Melbourne, focusing on the specialty of Hand Surgery and Microsurgery.

After attaining his fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2007, Dr Goh undertook a two-year international fellowship in Asia and North America, focusing on cranio-maxillo-facial and cosmetic surgery. During this time abroad, Dr Goh had the privilege of working alongside leaders in plastic surgery in world renowned plastic surgery units.

Dr Goh is an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).

Dr Goh believes in being at the forefront of evolution in plastic surgery, and enjoys regularly participating in select national and international plastic surgery congresses and master classes. Dr Goh believes that a fervent desire to learn and to continue to improve patient outcome is absolutely essential to a surgeon’s development no matter what level of experience they are at.

In addition to ongoing professional development, Dr Goh is also involved in the training of local surgeons through mentorship, and registrar teaching.

He believes that the key to a successful outcome in many plastic surgery procedures narrows down to a simplified equation. Firstly, both the patient and surgeon must be able to define, outline, and agree on the issue to be addressed. Secondly, the goals of surgery and expectations on what is reasonably achievable must be clear; and, finally, the surgeon must possess the experience and technical expertise to be able to achieve the goals, and also to be able to deal with any potential complications should they arise.

Dr Goh’s areas of special interest and expertise:

  • Rhinoplasty
  • Aesthetic Breast Surgery
  • Body Contouring
  • Skin cancer

FAQs - Fees & Costs:

You will typically have 1-2 consultations with Dr Goh prior to any cosmetic surgery. Your first consult will take approximately 30-60 minutes depending on the procedure you are interested in and will cost $275-350 (for rhinoplasty consultations). If you have a Medicare card you may be eligible for a rebate, more if you have a valid referral letter from you GP or Specialist. All consult fees are payable in full on the day of your consultation or prior to your consult for telehealth appointments.

Your second consultation is an opportunity to ask your surgeon any additional questions you may have pertaining to your upcoming surgery. This appointment will be shorter than your initial appointment and is free of charge.

Rhinoplasty patients will be required to pay a deposit at the time of booking their initial consultation

Dr Goh offers consultations for skin cancer/lesions at Redlands. Initial consultations will take between 15-30 minutes and  will be between $175-210.

If you have a Medicare card you may be eligible for a rebate, more if you have a valid referral letter from you GP or Specialist.

Once you have met with Dr Goh and discussed the surgical options available to you, one of our VPS client support officers will provide you with a detailed fee estimate that will include your surgeon’s fees and any out-of-pocket costs (also known as “a gap”) you may incur.

Your out-of-pocket costs are the difference between your surgeon’s fee and the rebate you receive from Medicare and your private health insurance if applicable. Your quote will also include estimates of other fees that will apply for your surgery including hospital, anaesthetist, pathology, prosthesis or implant costs as required. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sourced quotes directly from these additional suppliers.

Please understand that our client support officers are available to go through any details and answer questions pertaining to the costs of a surgery and we will be clear and transparent in all our communication with you with regards to costs.  There is no obligation on you to book surgery after your first consult and you can take away all the information we provide to you whist you consider your options to proceed.

NB: Estimates are valid to 6 months from the date of issue during which time a surgical booking can be made for within 12 months of the date of the estimate.

If you are uninsured you will be provided with an estimate of fees for your chosen hospital. You will also be given the contact details for your anaesthetist.

A 7 day cooling off period applies for all adults who are consenting to a major cosmetic surgical procedure. With the exception of rhinoplasty procedures, you will not be required to pay for your surgery at the time of your appointment, but a deposit will be required to secure a surgery date. Rhinoplasty procedures require a $1500 deposit to book the surgery.

If you are having a procedure in a hospital, your surgeon’s fee is due no later than four weeks prior to your surgery date. Following your surgery you will receive an itemised receipt to claim any benefits back, if applicable.

As a general rule, plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons is not covered by private health insurance funds or Medicare.

Some operations, that have a significant functional aspect, may be considered medical rather than cosmetic and, as such, may attract a small rebate. To apply, your procedure must be deemed as medical by Dr Goh, and attract a Medicare item number. If applicable, this will be outlined in your quote.

Dr Goh is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), which is the peak body representing the field of plastic surgery in Australia. Currently, the ASPS Code of Practice requires that members do not enter into any arrangements with patients to assist them in obtaining finance to pay for a procedure, such as offering a credit facility (other than the use of a credit card), introducing the patient to a credit provider or providing information about possible loans.

Some patients choose to book their procedure in advance with a deposit and then schedule regular payments towards their surgical fee prior to their proposed surgery date. Payments will be arranged to suit the patient’s circumstances, whilst ensuring the final balance is settled two weeks prior to surgery. Contact us to find out more information.
