Dr Carly Fox
With a profound personal understanding of the emotional and physical toll that cancer and reconstructive surgery can impose on patients and their families, she is dedicated to delivering personalised and innovative care throughout each patient’s journey. Dr Fox’s commitment to the field began during her early years in medical school, inspired by her father’s battle with melanoma.
“Providing world class care for my patients and pushing the limits of what’s possible for them in reconstructive surgery is a deeply personal mission for me."
Dr Fox’s academic credentials are extensive. She graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Science, before completing her MBBS in 2008. She completed a Post Graduate Diploma of Anatomy through the University of Melbourne, followed in 2014 by a Master of Philosophy, examining the molecular basis of melanoma. She was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019 and subsequently completed further fellowships in Reconstructive Microsurgery at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Paediatric Hand and Microsurgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Following completion of her training, Dr Fox spent a further three years working in Melbourne and gained invaluable experience at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital, specializing in melanoma, cutaneous SCC, and complex reconstructions including trauma and head and neck cancer. She recently relocated to Brisbane to be closer to family and has appointments at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Children’s Hospital. Her expertise and experience have earned her a reputation for a meticulous attention to detail and innovative techniques.
In addition to her clinical work Dr Fox has contributed to over twenty academic research papers on melanoma, skin cancer, and reconstructive plastic surgery. She maintains multiple research collaborations with colleagues and industry across Australia.
"The landscape of therapies available for treating advanced skin cancer and melanoma is constantly evolving. It is challenging, but also tremendously exciting to be at the forefront of these new technologies, which can provide new hope where before there was none.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr Fox is a passionate cyclist and avid runner, often seen on the trails of Mt Coot-Tha trying to keep up with her Australian Shepherd, Bill. She draws energy and inspiration from regular exercise amidst her busy consulting schedule. When taking the night off, she can usually be found trying her best to stay awake to the end of a classic film from the seventies.

Once you have met with Dr Fox and discussed the surgical options available to you, one of our VPS client support officers will provide you with a detailed fee estimate that will include your surgeon’s fees and any out-of-pocket costs (also known as “a gap”) you may incur.
Your out-of-pocket costs are the difference between your surgeon’s fee and the rebate you receive from Medicare and your private health insurance if applicable. Your quote will also include estimates of other fees that will apply for your surgery including hospital, anaesthetist, pathology, prosthesis or implant costs as required. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sourced quotes directly from these additional suppliers.
Please understand that our client support officers are available to go through any details and answer questions pertaining to the costs of a surgery and we will be clear and transparent in all our communication with you with regards to costs. There is no obligation for you to book surgery after your first consult and you can take away all the information we provide to you whist you consider your options to proceed.
NB: Estimates are valid to 6 months from the date of issue during which time a surgical booking can be made for within 12 months of the date of the estimate.
If you are uninsured you will be provided with an estimate of fees for your chosen hospital. You will also be given the contact details for your anaesthetist.
A 7 day cooling off period applies for all adults who are consenting to a major cosmetic surgical procedure. You will not be required to pay for your surgery at the time of your appointment, but a deposit may be required to secure a surgery date.
If you are having a procedure in a hospital, your surgeon’s fee is due no later than two weeks prior to your surgery date. Following your surgery you will receive an itemised receipt to claim any benefits back, if applicable.
As a general rule, plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons is not covered by private health insurance funds or Medicare.
Some operations, that have a significant functional aspect, may be considered medical rather than cosmetic and, as such, may attract a small rebate.
